One of the reasons you should always take your camera wherever you go, is because you never photogenic comes your way... Even if just a simple Feather In The Wind by =kingkool6 (Featured by `garrit)
I notice you use the Cannon EOS Digital Rebel... I've heard good things about it. How is it working out for you? I've recently found myself with a Fujifilm Finepix s7000, and I'm forcing myself to set every detail of the photo myself. Focus, Aperture, Exposure time, White Balance, everything. I'm curious, how was this shot taken?
Thank you! It was just there and I knew I had to take a picture of it. I'm so glad I spotted it there too. Pure luck I'd say. It was a very lucky day, that January 1st 2005. You'll see later in the week. Check back!
The digital rebel is a grea camera, a good balance between control and usability. It isn't a full blown pro camera but it isn't a consumer automatic camera either. I would highly reccomend it to anyone looking to get into artsy digital photography. The big seller for me was the lack of shutter lag (that moment from when you press the shutter button until the photo is actually captured) The biggest downside is the cost, and then the desire for more expensive accesories. Afterall, buying different lenses is a great deal of fun. For an in depth (and I do mean more info then you could ever want) about the DRebel check out : [link] **Warning!!! But seriously it's a great tool to have.
As for this picture, i used shutter speed priority mode. The camera would adjust the aperature to expose the image at my desired shutter speed, in this case 1/250th of a second. I used my 70-300mm lens at 214.0 mm That's how I got a shallow depth of field. I used Auto Focus. As far as technique used in taking the picture I got very lucky and found this set-up just like you see up top. The wind would blow it in different directions and I snapped away trying to catch the best one. The focus would also be off sometimes as the wind would pick up. That's my photo style to just snap away and experiment, hopefully a good photo will come out. The original was a little flatter so i used the "auto-levels" tool in Photoshop and Voila! Hope I satisfied your curiosity, feel free to send me a note or email if you have any other questions r you just want to chit chat.
It's hard to be original. I really wish you could have been there that day, quite a weird chance that so many unique things were happening. Thanks for the love and support babe. We gotta go photoing throughtout the city when you get here.

P.S. taking pictures in the late afternoon gives some great lighting. This one was taken at 3:50 pm right before it started to set.
